As owner of MGPG Events, Inc. Merry Green has made it her life’s mission to create uniquely innovative event experiences for every client. After starting her career in media at WOKR-TV in her hometown of Rochester,New York, Green ventured to the Midwest to join the Public Affairs programming team at NBC 5 Chicago. Soon after, she accepted the challenging role of Promotions and Marketing Director for V103 (WVAZ) which was bursting into the Chicago radio market.
Green offered her radio media colleagues a promotional idea of a “Steppin’ Out” party, which morphed into V103’s “The World’s Largest Steppers Competition” for the next 15 years. Merry’s creation and orchestration of this legendary affair more than solidified her rightful place in the event planning industry. Green’s next “big idea” has been in existence for the past 30 years. “The Black Women’s Expo” (BWe) is the nation’s largest, longest running, most-respected, intergenerational exposition targeting Black Women. While the concept began as a V103 radio promotion led by Green, the show’s rapid growth was the impetus for the creation of MGPG Events, Inc. in 1995 and has been her standalone venture ever since.
With Chicago being the flagship location, the Black Women’s Expo has traveled across the country to various major cities including Atlanta, Detroit and Dallas. The respect of the BWe brand is evident through the thousands who attend annually, the awe-inspiring speakers, vast range of celebrity performances and the ever-growing list of exhibitors and corporate sponsors.
Green’s work has garnered numerous news features and accolades including the Chicago Defender’s Women of Excellence Award, the Jean Baptiste Pointe DuSable Humanitarian/Industry Service Award and the Business Leadership Council’s Impact Award. Green is in her second year of producing the Chicago Urban League’s Golden Fellowship Awards Gala, one of the largest formal affairs in the city boasting more than 2,000 guests. Green looks forward to her life’s work being chronicled by The HistoryMakers in 2026.
Merry is the mother of three sons and enjoys attending concerts, festivals and occasional travel with friends.
