Jackson Legacy Foundation

About

We believe that all people are guaranteed human rights, civil rights, social and economic justice, and gender equality.

At the Jackson Legacy Foundation, our work is rooted in the values of personal fortitude, compassion, social justice, and empowerment of education to fulfill one’s personal journey. As a grant-making organization, we actively seek and support individuals and organizations that:

Fight for equitable access to education, arts, and athletics.

Promote racial, social, and general equality.

Nurture young people who demonstrate the fortitude to advance themselves, their community, and justice and compassion in the world.

Founded by Jacqueline Jackson in 1988, the Jackson Legacy Foundation was established to represent the life and values of her mother, Gertrude Brown. Despite being born into poverty and becoming an unwed mother at 16, Ms. Brown remained dedicated to self-improvement and education. After putting her own five children through college, at age 51, she successfully earned a degree from Hampton College and later a master’s degree from Norfolk State University.  In partnership with her husband, Reverend Jesse Jackson, and her children, Mrs. Jackson has continued to evolve the Foundation to reflect the lives and accomplishments of her family.

We invite you to connect with us and join our mission to champion high-quality education for all, human rights, civic leadership, personal perseverance, and compassion.
